What Movies to Watch in 2008 Part One

Hello Everyone,

I thought that I would give my two cents on the ten of the most anticipated movies coming out next year. I will start with the first five movies coming out this year. The list is derived from movies.yahoo.com; I will also be adding a few movies not listed so in the end I will be giving my two cents on more than ten movies.

Here we go:

Cloverfield: Release Date: 01/18

We got our first taste of this movie in a teaser trailer that was released when Transformers hit the theaters last year (by the way, it was one of the best movies of 2007.) The trailer was just that--a teaser; all we knew was something was happening in New York and the head of the Statue of Liberty was being thrown into the city. The movie is filmed à la Blair Witch Project in the sense that we are seeing the movie through the eyes of one of the characters, who is filming the events with his camcorder. When the trailer hit, speculation ran rampant that producer J.J. Abrams was doing a Voltron movie or a Godzilla remake. In the end, it seems to be a movie about a monster attacking the Big Apple. I am looking forward to this movie and I hope it can live up to all the buzz and hype it has been receiving. I think that just getting the first person point of view via the camcorder will add a sort of realism to the movie.

Rambo: Release Date: 01/25

I do not have much to say about this movie. Sylvester Stallone is back, writing, directing, and of course, starring in the new chapter of the Rambo franchise. I saw the trailer and it's okay; I think if you look at this movie for what it's worth, just an action film, you should be okay. I was happy when everyone thought that Stallone was gone from the limelight and his career had died a slow death. I guess we can see what happened, since a great deal of people did like the last Rocky movie.

Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who: Release Date: 03/14

This animated movie is brought to you by the creators of Ice Age. With the voices of Jim Carrey and Steve Carell, I guess you can't go wrong. If you have kiddies, take them to see this flick, and if you don't, go see it anyway. Nowadays, a great deal of animated films' humor are more geared toward adults than kids.

Iron Man: Release Date: 05/02

I cannot wait for this fucking movie. I can feel that this movie is going to be the hit summer movie of 2008. I mean, you have comic book fanboy Jon Favreau directing this movie and Robert Downey, Jr., playing Tony Stark. Who else can play a billionaire alcoholic who dons an armor of iron? The trailer was kick-ass, especially the last clip when he is flying with those fighter jets and he ends up breaking the sound barrier. The best thing about this is when you have a director who actually reads comic books and loves the character--you can't go wrong. A perfect example is Bryan Singer and X-Men. Let's hope this movie is a hit and we can see sequels hitting the theaters in 2010.

Speed Racer: Release Date: 05/09

I was never a fan of the Speed Racer cartoon, but I did love the music remix they did back in the 90s. The movie is being directed by the infamous Wachowski Brothers, who, as we all know, created the Matrix trilogy. Based on the trailer, the racing scenes are very CGI, but you have a strong cast with Matthew Fox, Susan Sarandon, John Goodman, and Christina Ricci. I will most likely give this movie a shot only because the Wachowski brothers are directing.
